Freckles in April: Lazy V-Day

Lazy V-Day

We don't really do Valentine's Day around here. I think Aaron and I would both be perfectly happy to let the day go by unmarked except Stinky is in kindergarten now and he picks up the hype at school. He's been asking for weeks to do "something fun" for Valentine's Day. I wasn't really excited about the idea of having to plan anything but I'm kind of lame mom when it comes to all holidays (Elf on the Shelf? Creepy. Tinting the milk green for St Patty's? Um no. etc) so I figured I should do something.

The dollar bins at Target came to the rescue and I threw together a special dinner in the backyard.

Blouse c/o OASAP

It wasn't anything particularly spectacular but when you've set the bar as low as I have then ANYTHING looks good.

I've been wanting one of these embroidered peasant blouses for a while but then I saw Grace rocking one a while back and I was like, "THAT'S IT. GETTING MYSELF ONE." Because I am nothing if not a big old Grace-copier.

As someone who doesn't own a ton of real feminine pieces it was my best option for Vday (after my white lace dress, which I am too scared to wear around food). It's also been my best option for like...Tuesdays. And Thursdays. And whenever else. It's starting to warm up here (nooo) and this lightweight, loose blouse is absolutely perfect.

How was your VDay? Please tell me I'm not the only lazy mom out there who thinks Pinterest is making them look bad...

  1. My V-day consisted of 9 hours of driving/road trip with in-laws who could not stop fighting, the picking up stepkids who would not stop fighting, and waiting almost 90 minutes for pizza delivery to our hotel (adjoining room with previously mentioned inlaws) because when I suggested we order said pizza at 5:30 instead of 6:30 everyone said "Oh! No one is hungry yet though!" We didn't eat until almost 8pm (hello, hangry hangry everyone). And by 9:00 pm the kids were a freaking wreck.

    Happy Valentine's Day.

Honestly, I would have been whopping with joy at your celebration, it looks absolutely lovely.

  2. I'm a lame mom who Pinterest (and other moms at daycare) makes look bad. But I like to think that even though I am not the most creative or artsy, my son is still getting to experience things that most of his classmates haven't. He has canoed, kayaked, been rock climbing, camping, hiking, etc in his 3 years of life. I don't have a creative bone in my body, but I know how to play!

  3. The extent of our valentines day is making cards for each other (take that Hallmark!) and an excuse to make dessert. Valentines day is so overrated!!

  4. I'm not sure why but our kids think the fact that our anniversary is on Valentines is awesome. And they make us breakfast in bed. I mean, it's not great (heart shaped toast this year, a big improvement from applejacks at 3am last year), but so sweet that they even notice and care. I bought a fancy candy and left it out for them, but that is all :) Being a mom in the age of pinterest is depressing. Certainly the creative moms were doing all of this crap all along, but the lazy and uncrafty among us didn't have it rubbed in our faces for weeks before and after :)

  5. I'm no mama but I already don't believe in stressing myself out making striped straws or decorating cookies. To each their own, but....not for me. Also, so happy that your'e wearing a peasant shirt! I got one like 5 years ago and never ended up wearing it much but haven't been able to part with it, even after several rounds of Goodwill closet-thinning over the years....you've inspired me to bust it out!
