T-2 Days

In 2 days we will be holding the keys to our new house. In the meantime, my current house looks like THIS:

And that's actually a somewhat clean corner. Can I admit that the mess is sort of killing me inside? I generally keep a decently clean house because I feel nonfunctional in a mess. And our house has been a total mess for WEEKS. I'm not handling it well.

I asked Aaron yesterday if he was excited to close this weekend and he said, "...yes?" and I know what he means. The new house is very liveable in its current state but everything is total builder basic. We have SO much work ahead of us to get it updated and looking how we want. It's going to take years (and monies. Sigh).  We're painting the main living areas this weekend before we move in, so at least we'll have a start but it's still rather intimidating! Still so much to be done.

I'll be taking the month of March off Babble so I can unpack, paint, get settled, etc. In the meantime, here's what I wrote for Babble in February!

Lazy V-Day

We don't really do Valentine's Day around here. I think Aaron and I would both be perfectly happy to let the day go by unmarked except Stinky is in kindergarten now and he picks up the hype at school. He's been asking for weeks to do "something fun" for Valentine's Day. I wasn't really excited about the idea of having to plan anything but I'm kind of lame mom when it comes to all holidays (Elf on the Shelf? Creepy. Tinting the milk green for St Patty's? Um no. etc) so I figured I should do something.

The dollar bins at Target came to the rescue and I threw together a special dinner in the backyard.

Blouse c/o OASAP

It wasn't anything particularly spectacular but when you've set the bar as low as I have then ANYTHING looks good.

I've been wanting one of these embroidered peasant blouses for a while but then I saw Grace rocking one a while back and I was like, "THAT'S IT. GETTING MYSELF ONE." Because I am nothing if not a big old Grace-copier.

As someone who doesn't own a ton of real feminine pieces it was my best option for Vday (after my white lace dress, which I am too scared to wear around food). It's also been my best option for like...Tuesdays. And Thursdays. And whenever else. It's starting to warm up here (nooo) and this lightweight, loose blouse is absolutely perfect.

How was your VDay? Please tell me I'm not the only lazy mom out there who thinks Pinterest is making them look bad...

My 6 Superpowers of Dubious Merit

Last night I must have fallen asleep thinking about blogging because I dreamed I wrote a post entitled "My Superpowers of Dubious Merit." In my dream I was rolling laughing while writing it. It didn't quite shake down that way in the waking world (I suspect I came up with significantly better ones while sleeping) but it was still kind of fun thinking about these.

1. I can take a hundred pictures of myself in under 10 minutes.

2. I can take a hundred pictures of myself and not have a single one turn out usable.

There's more where this came from (see a nonblurry version in this Babble post)

3. I can throw up on demand. And sometimes not on demand (thank you, two barfy pregnancies, for giving me a hair trigger gag reflex).

4. I can raise each eyebrow independently of the other.

5. I can still say "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." in Spanish 12 years after watching the movie in class. (that's about all the Spanish I remember)

6. I can eat an entire Cafe Rio salad in one sitting.

I feel like there's a comic book possibility in there somewhere.

What is your superpower of dubious merit?

I also write for Babble! Here's what's new:

Let's Collaborate in February!

Ok, I am the worst because I totally updated the collaboration page well over a week ago and then...did nothing. Told no one. And now you've only got a week. I'm sorry, I'm an idiot. My only excuse is that I've got like a million things on my to-do list and most involve contractors and inspectors and paperwork for selling this house and buying the new one so stuff like blogging kind of gets put on the back burner.

Join me on a post for Babble in February! Hop on over to the Babble collab page to check out the prompt!
