Freckles in April: If I Were Braver

If I Were Braver

I saw a lot of leggings in Paris. A LOT. I joked with my mom and sister that I needed to print business cards that say something like, "A friendly reminder: leggings are not pants. Have a great day!" and then secretly slip them into women's purses.

While I saw a fair number of women wearing plain black leggings, I saw even more fun ones. Prints! Studs! Cutouts! It was awesome. If I were a little braver, I might order these-

Kind of awesome, right? From ASOS ($25 on clearance!)

My mom rocked all kinds of jumpsuits while I was growing up. I teased her about that picture back when I posted it and she just kind of shrugged and said, "I LOVED jumpsuits. I'd still wear them!" If I were a little braver, perhaps I'd follow in her footsteps with this number:

Not gonna lie..I'm kind of tempted. From ASOS (also on sale!)

What might you wear if you were braver?

  1. Haha - I had a purple jumpsuit that I loved!! So comfortable - I think if I still had it I would try to be brave and wear it :).

  2. Are you saying they were wearing leggings as pants? And that they shouldn't have been? Because I think we Americans are the only ones that think that. And, if history proves anything, we'll be following in their fashion footsteps soon enough.

We were in Europe during the winter of 2005, I think. EVERYONE, including old ladies, were wearing their pants tucked into boots. I kept telling Ken, "you'd NEVER see that in America. It's horrible!" Two or three years later and EVERYONE, including old ladies, are wearing their pants tucked into boots in America. I never thought I'd see the day and now I own more pairs of boots (to wear with tucked jeans) then I can shake a stick at.

When we go to Canada we notice A LOT of people wearing leggings/yoga pants. It's very fashionable. And they wear them as pants. It's super hard for me to embrace this fashion. But I think, eventually, we're going to have to.

Clearly (CLEARLY!) I thought too much about the whole "leggings as pants" debate. It's a hot topic at my house as my husband is very pro leggings as pants and I'm still on the fence.

    That is all.

  3. I had a similar experience with Isabel - I went to Europe and saw everyone in these AWFUL skinny jeans and handkerchief scarves. Terrible! Guess what everyone was wearing next year? And I admit it - I wear leggings as pants as long as my privies are covered.

Jumpsuits, on the other hand, no. Just no. Not with my hips.

  4. To clarify, I'm totally fine with leggings as long as the shirt is long enough to hit the lower curve of the bum. These girls were wearing normal shirts that hit hipbone or higher. I saw a LOT more of their private areas than I really wanted to. And some of the leggings were kind of sheer, so....

  5. Leggings are not pants...unless they have some substance to them. My concern (with American women's leggings, as I didn't see the Parisiennes' and can't make a judgement on theirs) is that they're scarcely thicker than tights...and goodness knows tights are not pants! Ponte leggings? Totally fine. Thin ones that I can see your skivvies through? Not so much.

    Amen.

Also, if I were braver, I might wear maxi dresses. As it stands, though, the thought of nearly all six feet of me covered in the same color/pattern is terrifying. IT'S JUST SO MUCH FABRIC.

  6. Oooh, this is good to know! I'm going to Paris in a couple of weeks (ALONE WITH MY HUSBAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Leggings with bums tastefully covered it is!
Did you see any Europeans in maxi skirts or dresses?

  7. I wear leggings as pants probably....most days of the week when I'm not in the office. I'll only wear them to work if I'm wearing a shirt/tunic long enough to make them decent. But for running errands, house lounging or a lunch with friends? Leggings. They make me feel free! Don't worry, I take careful measures to avoid camel toe violations.

    1. Also, I lovingly refer to them as "spants" ...spandex pants.

  8. It's so funny to see this being debated! Lol! I'm in New Zealand and we've been wearing leggings as pants for years (I don't! They show waaaay too much for my tastes!). Now that you mention it though I don't think Aussies do? New Zealand tends to follow the british and Aussie tends to follow the States so that would make sense :-)
