We normally don't even recognize Vday round these parts (we barely even do our anniversary) but this year I pulled off quite the gift. I surprised Aaron with a cruise! Not too shabby considering I thought of it just over a week ago. So we celebrated a little early and got home yesterday evening. I'll share some pictures and an excessively wordy recap later but, in the meantime, here's some love for your Valentine's Day:
Some tips for a really great marriage from Mara and Danny of A Blog About Love. A hearty amen to all of it.
It's business time. Please tell me you already know this one by heart. The other day Aaron was giving me a massage and wimped out early. "That was like two minutes long!" I complained. He replied, "Two minutes in heaven is better than one minute in heaven." Touche.
Ruche regularly posts love stories on their blog. If you want to laugh, cry, and generally wallow in sap, it's a good place to go.
Time.com did a wonderful piece on couples who have been married 50 years or more. My favorite was one sweet wife talking about how she and her husband have become so alike and she said, "It's the years. The years." I can feel the weight behind that. What an amazing thing to stand on that side of a marriage and be able to look back on so much time, experience and love shared.
Happy Valentine's Day from our nest of lurve to yours.
What an awesome wife you are! Hope you had fun on the cruise :)

ReplyDeleteHow fun! I am impressed you pulled that off so quickly. I think I'd get bogged down in the deets and give up.

Beautiful messages. How fun to surprise with a cruise! Can't wait to hear more about it.
ReplyDeleteYou tell me you want more. Well, I don't blame you, but I am quite sleepy.
ReplyDeleteWe love that song. Happy Valentine's day!
a cruise!! i knew you were gone too long and something was up. :) hope you had so much fun. the hubby and i love cruising and have done it 4 times together.
ReplyDeletethanks for the links. i love reading about love.
ReplyDeleteSpencer and I once spent an entire semester singing nothing but Flight of the Conchords. So when he struggles to get off his pants during *cough, cough*, you better believe I start singing "It's business - it's business time".
ReplyDeleteAnd when I'm down to just my socks you know what time it is, it's time for buisness that's why they call them buisness sock.
ReplyDeleteWhen my boyfriend put that song on a mixed-CD for me I knew he was in love with we.
Also a CRUISE! Holy cow, awesome present. Hope you have a blast & a half!
I finally got around to clicking through the slideshow, and did you see that there's a book in progress as a Kickstarter project? My favorite part of the video is when the guy is like, "My wife's name is Renee, R-E-N-E-E with an accent on the second E ... oh, no accent. She says no accent." :)
ReplyDeleteoh, i love celebrating love. it's a really good thing we had a memorable event occur on february 13th in our dating history, otherwise clint would entirely refuse to celebrate a holiday like this :) way to go on surprising aaron!
ReplyDeleteWow that is awesome that you were able to surprise him! My husband and I don't do Vday either, so maybe this is something I can aspire to someday for a complete surprise!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me about "Business Time." LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou are the rockingest wife ever.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, today, I'm feeling especially gloomy that you live far away.
That was seriously amazing! I'm sure you guys had a wonderful romantic getaway -- without the kids, right?
ReplyDeleteI'm off to go check out Ruche's blog. I love a good love story.

Cruise?! Fun!
ReplyDeleteWas he wearing business socks during the massage? Did you take out the recycling?
You should have mentioned that you and Aaron BOTH have parents who have been married a seriously long time! You've got great examples right in front of you all the time.
ReplyDeleteI like you. a lot.
ReplyDeleteI see you all over the place on friend's blogs (Janssen, Merrick, Bethany) and my curiosity has finally peeked! I'm officially your latest stalker. :)
