Sleep Cuddles

Shirt from church swap, Gap jeans, Charlotte Russe sandals, ATL necklace, F21 bracelets, Target watch

Before marriage I assumed my husband and I would cuddle each night and wake blissfully in each other's arms each morning. Because, you know, why else would you get married?

I have since learned many times over that cuddle sleeping is miserable. The other night Aaron fell asleep snuggling with me and I was feeling kind of neglected so I decided to just roll with it. Several hours later I peeled my aching body away and limp-crawled to my side of the bed. We both felt awful the next day.

Over the course of our marriage we have spent two separate nights in hotels that came with a pair of queen beds, including our trip to Utah a couple months ago.

Best. nights. sleep. ever.

I'm kind of considering separate beds for our room. Would that be weird?

PS Did you read the comments from yesterday's post? Fascinating stuff, I tell you!

  1. my baby is a rotten sleeper, so my husband often crashes in a different room.

I think Lucy and Rick, Ozzie and Harriet might have had it right, sometimes.

  2. This just cracks me up! We recently went on a little getaway to the beach in a hotel room with separate beds and the Hubs and I were talking about this exact thing. lol And we always talk about getting a king sized bed, so that we can really stretch out and never even have to touch all night long (other than for, well, you know. lol). Anyways, I really think cuddling only happens in movies and books. No one in real life actually cuddles, right??

Oh, and I love those sandals. They're so cute!!

  3. In response to Tiffany, just have to say that we're real life cuddlers! I have a really hard time falling asleep when husband isn't holding me, and he always reaches for me in the middle of the night. We actually shared a twin bed for our first few weeks of marriage (before our actual bed arrived) and while it was a little snug, we were mostly fine with it. I can't imagine what we would possibly do with a king-sized one.

  4. Oh we cuddle every night. And also, I wake up with perfect hair and makeup. And no morning breath.

  5. After 11 years, we are still like Janssen and her husband. For reals.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

I remember the days when cuddling in bed and sleeping that way was comfy. That was pre babies. Before little people were on me all day, requiring things of me. Now I just want good sleep. I love hotel beds, because we don't have a king and oh...to gloriously sprawl out and have all that room!!!! There have been times that my kids are spending the night at grandma and grandpa's and I will sleep in my daughter's room to get a good night of sleep. Shhhh. Don't tell anyone.

  6. WE were lucky enough to get a free king mattress when we were newlyweds...and let me tell you, once you go king, you can never go back...

  7. I get really hot when I sleep, so unless the room is relatively cold, I try to stay as far away from the hubs as possible. But if the temp's good, I like to sleep in the middle of the bed, snuggled up next to the husband, but I don't like for him to put his arm on me or anything. Funny story: one time I had a dream and I was going along, doing whatever it was in my dream (I don't remember), but in my dream I kept randomly dropping into a seizure. I finally woke up and the husband's elbow was in my back, and my back was spazzing out because of it (giving me the seizures in my dream). Weird!

  8. Before we got married we would always joke that we were going to get 2 twin beds and then on the weekends we'd push them together for some lovin'....now, 1 kid and 1 dog later, we wonder why the heck didn't we do that for real?

  9. Don't hate, but we still cuddle sleep on a regular basis, and I love it! With the exception of sumemr, of course. No cuddling then.

But I probably get great sleep while cuddling for two reasons:

    1. I'm the heaviest sleeper you will ever met.

    2. I'm usually the outside spoon (not my idea), so I end up with 2/3 of the bed. Holla!

  10. TRUE.

I just might enjoy cuddle sleeping once in a while if my husband wasn't a sweat machine. (TMI? Sorry.) Let me clarify, he's not a stinky sweat machine. Nevertheless, if my hand is on his skin for more than 5 seconds, it's insta-clammy. For that reason alone, I prefer my 3 full length body pillows and he his 1.

Thank goodness we have a big bed.

  11. I think the church swap sounds like such an awesome idea. Signed, major cuddler :)

  12. We talked about separate beds, but my husband was too worried what everyone would think. (Everyone? First off, why is 'everyone' checking out our bedroom?) I said everyone would think, 'hey, that's smart. I'll bet they're getting some great sleep'!

  13. My best friend's parents have separate beds and I always thought it was weird. That said, I understand it now. While I don't sleep well on my side normally, cuddling is the only way I get any sleep pregnant. Maybe that's where pushing the beds together comes in?

  14. haha, I had the same idea as you sister, until I tried it. Now we cuddle for a few minutes and roll over away from each other.

Have you only spent two nights apart? That's so sweet.

  15. My significant other and I thought about this for awhile and then just decided to go for a larger bed. Best of both worlds! Cuddle until you start to fall asleep then move to your respective sides!

  16. We cuddle. For about a minute. Then I need my space. He's a radiator and he snores so bad!

Hey, the Van Dykes and Ricardos had separate beds - it's not all that crazy of a concept!

  17. The smallest bed my husband and I have ever shared was a double, and it was c-r-a-m-p-e-d. Even our queen seems to small sometimes-- we are definitely "watch a show, then roll over and leave each other alone until the morning" people. The best is when we're on vacation and have a hotel room with a king-sized bed...we just wave to each other from across the expanse. (Seriously, I do like having my space.)

  18. i agree. plus not sleeping in the same bed would totally spice things up. heck, I'd love separate apartments. two places to decorate, sending him away to play video games and hanging out just for the fun stuff. it could work.

  19. I think it's weirder that as a child I had my own bed, all my life, but now that I'm a married adult I have to share a bed - wth?! So wrong. I can't sleep if I'm being touched at all and I get disturbed if there's someone moving in the bed next to me. I would love separate beds for our room but it feels kind of weird. I don't know why - social conditioning? Why should it be weird? Maybe we should just do it!

  20. So funny! I totally agree. It is so uncomfortable to actually sleep in a cuddle. Plus my husband is a heater which makes it unbearable after a couple mins. I'm glad so many other agree. King size bed is the way to go!

  21. So basically until right now... I thought all couples woke up happily in each others arms. But I guess I should have thought that through because when me and my best friend share a bed we end up all turned around and on opposite sides of the bed.

And I like Jansens comment. Me too. I never wake up with a cowlick either. Never. And I sleep in a princess-y silk nightgown.

  23. I have always taken up my entire bed, even as a child. A double (full) for me is comfortable. Boyfriend and I sleep terribly in the same bed, I couldn't cuddle while I slept if I wanted to! I always get too warm, I call him a space-heater. Haven't gotten a bed big enough for the two of us yet!
