Wearing thrifted vest, Gap jeans, Charlotte Russe sandals, Target watch, Hanes v-neck painted by me |
This is an
EBEW I can totally get behind. DIY? Don't mind if I do.

Hey pretty lady, wanna buy a watch? |
I LOVE freezer paper stenciling. It's a kind of instant gratification project. I sat down with my ruler, an x-acto knife and a pen and came up with this design while watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer (don't hate). I pulled one of my many Hanes v-necks out of my closet, did a quick paint job and ta-da! Eighties inspired shirt. Aaron assures me that its 80s in a good way though, so I've been wearing it with pride (and, occasionally, with neon. Just for kicks).
That tee is awesome and can we talk about how great that bun is? I like it all.
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to ask about those Hanes shirts forever...I find that most white shirts require an undershirt and I hate wearing more (unseen) layers than necessary. How do the Hanes do in that regard? Do you have to size up to make sure lines and undergarments don't show through?
ReplyDeleteLove the stenciling, by the way!
great idea!
ReplyDeleteI was going to ask the same thing as Jenn....how do the Hanes do at covering under garments?
ReplyDeleteLove Buffy.
Found you through EBEW...love this outfit! The vest and the shirt look like they were made for each other.
ReplyDeleteIs there a tutorial somewhere for this shirt-painting technique?
I love this bun...so elegant yet fun! :)
ReplyDeleteDang, totally forgot about EBEW:DIY. oh well.
ReplyDeleteLoving EVERYTHING about this outfit. The bun, the shirt, the vest, perfect.

Looks awesome, Kayla! The design is really cool, and I'm so impressed that you made that...and freezer paper stenciling? Never heard of it. Teach me your ways. :)

I love freezer paper stencils!! Favorite DIY ever. I like the abstract design you made. I usually print out something with words and it always takes forever to cut out...but this is a great idea! Instant gratification indeed.
ReplyDelete1. In my opinion, the Hanes shirts are substantial enough that I've never felt the need to wear layers. And they come in two different levels of quality and the slightly nicer ones are a little thicker.
ReplyDelete2. This was probably my best bun day ever. I will never be able to recreate it.
ok... ok... i clearly need to win the lotto so i can quit my job and be all crafty and terrific like you. insanely jealous. :( i've never altered clothes like that before.... the most i've ever done is hemmed a skirt/dress/pants. or sew a button. or fix a cuff/collar. but i love love love what you're doing. hmm... maybe i could just quit my job and come and live with you? i cook....
ReplyDeleteThat shirt looks amazing! I bet you got all 'A's in home ec! Looking good, lady!
ReplyDeleteGreat t-shirt design! I love the 80s inspiration.
ReplyDeleteFreezer paper stenciling? I guess I've got some googling to do to find out what it is! I love the look!
