Repaired: Green Dress

Wearing thrifted dress, Wal Mart shirt, Charlotte Russe sandals, F21 bangles, old bracelet
The repair and wear prompt from the challenge opened my eyes to how BIG my repair pile actually would be if all my mini repair piles from around the house gathered into one central location. It was driving me nuts in a subconscious kind of way. So, hopefully you're going to get an outfit built around an item from my repair pile a couple times a week. I really need to work through this ridiculousness.

Green eyeshadow! And winged eyeliner! I don't even know who I am anymore.

First up, we have this dress. I have very little green in my closet and that's something I've been looking to remedy. When I saw it at the thrift store I was immediately sold. I love the shape (I think this is one of those cases were something doesn't photograph well but looks decent in person) and the color was just what I was looking for (it's deeper than it looks in the pictures). BUT it had black marks all over the skirt. I talked the girl at the register into knocking 50% off (down to $4!) because if it was permanent marker then I would feel like a chump for paying $8.

I wasn't sure how to tackle the marker so it sat in [one of] my repair pile[s] for a couple weeks. Finally I stuck some stain treatment on it and tossed it in the wash. Aaaand it all came out. Simple as that. I stitched a falling spot in the hem and now I have a perfectly wearable green dress (but not a real green dress that's cruel).

I'm really looking forward to wearing this one with my newly thrifted blazer as soon as it finally cools down!

  2. Love that Barenaked Ladies reference!!! I'm glad you were able to get the stains out of your dress, and I would love to know how you get your hair to look so full when you pull it back like this!

  5. You ARE a risk taker, aren't you? I probably would have assumed the black marks wouldn't have come out and left the dress in the store.

Love your hair today (and the green dress reference made me snicker)!

  7. I, too, am a recent convert to the winged eyeliner. I always loved the look, but didn't think I could pull it off. Now I just need a killer red lipstick and I'll be good!

Don't you love repairs that are that simple? If only my pile could be taken care of like that!

  8. I would never have guessed you could get permanent marker out of a garment. I"m amazed! The color is beautiful in pics--makes me curious as to how much more awesome it is in person.

  9. Maybe you lucked out and it was dry erase marker and not permanent! I get that stuff all over myself by the end of the day, but it always washes off. But either way, this is a great colored dress!

  10. OooOo. Green eyeshadow and winged eyeliner.. look at you! I just recently (in the past 6 months) started actually wearing eyeliner. I was very confused as to why I wasn't already wearing it. Eyeliner is greeeeeat! Do you use liquid? I never have, I dont understand it.
