Interview with Aaron

Speaking of interviews, did you see my interview over at the Smashion style lounge this weekend? If you've ever wondered what my fav animal is, you're in luck.

The existence of my husband has actually been called into question from time to time due to the fact that he doesn't exactly make many appearances. I asked if I could interview him and he agreed under certain conditions (voice altering equipment and a shadowy video being one of them). I told him I'd get right on that.

Tell me about where you grew up.

Surfing in Hawaii in 2008 (Jeremy is Aaron's brother, by the way)

I grew up in the green paradise of Hawaii on the east side of Oahu.  I was born there and lived there until I left for college at 18.  Hawaii really is kind of a foreign country when compared with the “mainland”.  People dress differently, they speak differently, and the culture is much more laid back than other places.  I loved it there, and want to someday have some land on the east side of Oahu where I’ll live with the family for a few months out of every year.  And eat plate lunches every day.

Baby Stinky did not love the ocean as much as we had hoped

What do you do?

If you ask my wife she’ll tell you that I spend most of my day being awesome, with an occasional bout of being really cool.  Also, I work as a mechanical engineer/designer developing new products.  I design everything from iPhone cases to medical devices to solar power equipment.  I sit in front of a computer for 10 hours every day building parts and assemblies in CAD (computer aided design).  I worked for a few companies before starting my own business 2 years ago.  Before starting my product development company I thought I had lost the love for engineering but it turns out I just didn’t like being an employee.  I love what I do now.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?

I work until I sense Kayla is about to hit me, and then I become dad/husband

Let's pretend we have $20k fun money just hanging out in an account. What would you spend it on?

I might spend a month in Costa Rica with my wife.  We’d bring the kids, but they couldn’t stay the whole time.  They’d just come down every other week.  I’d try and get my brother to come down with us so there would be someone to save me from drowning while trying to surf again (it’s been a while).

From our Costa Rica surf trip in '07

The other option is renting a penthouse suite somewhere expensive and eating salami, smoked gouda, and crackers for a week.  Kayla would be there, but no kids.  There would also be lots of movies.  I might pay some of the cast from Lost to come hang out, as well.

What's your favorite food in the whole world? What's your favorite thing that I make?

I would have to say the Di Notte pizza from Cibo.  I think it’s what being on a really good hit of cocaine must be like.  Haagen Daaz Vanilla Swiss Almond ice cream and Funyons (not together) are also strong contenders.

Mmm Cibo

My favorite thing Kayla makes is a toss-up between her incredible chocolate chip cookies (served with cold milk, of course) and this delicious crock pot chicken that she is ashamed she ever made for our family in the first place.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Hawaii or Costa Rica.  And in a ridiculously nice house with a full time cook and masseuse.

What's your favorite thing about yourself?

I would say my muscles, but I don’t really have any.  That being the case, I’ll settle for the fact that I feel like I’m able to maintain a pretty even temperament when life gets chaotic.

What's your favorite thing about being married to me?

Arm candy.  I mean that I get to be your arm candy.  Also, your ability to handle the kids day in and day out is nothing short of astounding.  Beyond that, I just like hanging out with you.  We should do that more often.  What are your plans this weekend?

[spoiler alert: I'm going to hang out with him this weekend]

  1. I had to laugh about that crock pot chicken comment...my MIL makes something similar to that and it is hands down one of Philip's favorite meals. I made it a few times in the early months of our marriage before I got serious about cooking and then refused from that time onward.

I don't know how it can still be a favorite with all the other amazing recipes that I've tried in the years since, but for some reason that nasty combo of ingredients still holds strong in his mind.

    Fun interview!

  2. Oh my goodness. I like this for so many reasons.

He lived in Hawaii!!!! I am so jealous! I would love to live there someday. Our son didn't like the ocean much either. Pretty sure he made that exact face!

I'd totally pay some of LOST to come hang out too, if we had money! Love it!

  6. You guys are too cute!
And after reading your smashion interview I'm beginning to suspect that we may have been separated at birth! I always say that Journey is the soundtrack to my childhood (thanks, mom!) and I am addicted to chap stick (I call it lip crack!).

  7. Hahaha. He sounds like a catch! So cute. I should hang out with my husband this weekend, too. :)

Also, I'm totally stealing the title "domestic engineer" from your other interview!

  8. Alright, I guess it's OK for you to marry him.

Wait...that's a little late. Well, you can have my blessing anyway. :)
