The History of Fashion Blogging

A couple weeks ago, Erica wrote a post about how there's this disconnect between the mirror and the camera. I noticed it big time during my first 30 for 30 and it's part of the reason I stuck with fashion blogging. What you see in the mirror is oftentimes not even close to what comes out on the camera. And the camera is usually the one you should trust. The mirror likes to fudge the truth a bit.

Erica and I were emailing about this phenomenon when I said,

It reminds me of Clueless when Cher says she doesn't trust mirrors so she uses polaroids. I totally get that now.
 And Erica replied,

Holy crap, Cher was the original fashion blogger. Who knew?

So now you know.

  1. Haha! You are so funny for posting this! Too bad I look terrible in that post. Oh well, blog it all, good or bad, right?

Also, thanks for reminding me about this. I've been feeling a little down and out about fashion blogging and have been wondering if I wanted to continue. So thanks.

  2. Love it!
I totally agree about the camera, too. I've learned not to wear certain things after seeing them on the camera a week later (meanwhile, I thought I was totally rockin' it. ha. laugh was on me)

  3. This makes me feel better! Often, I hate what I see in the mirror (I just had a baby 4 months ago, so I often see HUGE), but the camera...it makes me look better!

    Totally love that movie!

  5. actually when i first started viewing fashion blogs that was exactly what went through my mind. when i started taking pictures of my own outfits i remember thinking the same thing again. apparently Cher knew what she was talking about.

  8. omg...i SWEAR i look a bazillion times worse in person than in my pics (scary? yes). i always thought that the camera doesn't lie-if it does, okay by me...at least i'm documented decently on all of the interwebs! ;)
