Before and After: T-shirt Re-do and Pant Skinnification*

*I made that word up

I was going through my closet this week with an eye toward purging some stuff when I realized that a few things could be salvaged with just a few stitches.

When I was pregnant with Baby 2 I bought some Fruit of the Loom v-necks. They're pretty much the same as the Hanes ones but a smidge bigger to accommodate my larger...everything. They were great for my 2nd trimester but now they're too big and a little stretched out.

These American Eagle khakis fit perfectly through the hips, bum and thighs but flare a bit too much below the knee so I never wear them.

Enter the sewing machine.

I took the shirt in on each side and shortened the sleeves. Rather than hemming the sleeves (hemming knits is not a skill I've mastered) I trimmed the old hem and stitched it back on. I love that it still looks a little raw.

I was inspired by super talented Lizzie of Cotton and Curls and her tutorial on how to take in pants. I just took a couple inches out of the inside hem to make them a bit skinnier and I like them so much more now.

  1. Love It! Don't you love making old pants new and in style?! Thanks for the credit love!

  2. those pants look about a million times better now. nicely done.

  3. So i read the title and thought "SKIN - ification" not "SKINNY - fication". I thought it involved a dead animal... whew. I was relieved. Haha.

  4. I love your blog! I just awarded you the Versatile Blogger Award and gave you a shout-out on my blog! To see the post, here's my link...

  5. thanks for the link to that tutorial!! i'm totally rescuing some of my clothes now. :)

  6. I have some plans for Skinnification as well :)
    You did a great job!!

  7. love this! Really impressed with the pants....pants scare me. I am obsessed with resizing husband has to hide his favorites so they don't fall prey to my addiction.

  8. I give this product 3 stars instead of five because it does not fit all brand onesie snaps. I tried the shirt on and it fit fine. After a go in the wash it shrinked down a whole size. The shirt barely reaches my waist. I had to order XL so that it shrinks to a L.
